Born and raised in New Jersey, Dom had access to the galleries and art scene in New York City, forming a continuing interest in the creative process. He studied art at Rutgers University, the University of South Carolina at Columbia, and with private instructors, while carrying on a career in aeronautics. His studies cover a broad range of media, including drawing, painting, metal work, clay sculpture/casting and found object creations.
He took part in the avant-garde art scene in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during the heyday of Abstract Expressionism, studying with visiting artists from New York and developing his personal style, while winning awards and becoming known for his creative abilities.
He lived in Southern Italy from 2006-2009, creating art from found objects and painting on the smooth beach rocks. He now lives and maintains his studio in Tryon, NC.
Dom has won top awards in major national juried competitions, while sharing his expertise with students in workshops and classes. His work is in major public and private collections in the U.S. and Europe, including the permanent collection at the Tryon Fine Art Center. In 1998 he was interviewed in "The Artist's Magazine" for a feature article on abstract art.
Artist's Statement: "My collage, mixed media and wood sculptures derive from my interest in strong relationships between color and dramatic shapes, with an underlying connection to the rhythms of the earth. One of my strongest influences was Robert Motherwell, a major figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement."
